Replicating an Alco-built, FEF-3 class 4-8-4 Northern with the variant's double smokestacks, combined sandbox and steam dome, and centipede tender, this DCC- and sound-equipped HO scale model - part of Athearn's top-of-the-line Genesis series - is designed and tooled to be the finest operating miniature representation of the prototype available.
You get incredible features such as a boiler backhead with printed gauges; adjustable cab windows and opening doors and cab hatches; factory applied piping, valves and generators; a working smoke unit; see-through running boards; an authentic Union Pacific paint scheme; and much more.
Giving life to all the details are authentic sounds channeled through factory installed DCC and sound boards with speakers. The DCC decoder even senses what type of power supply is in use (conventional DC or NMRA compliant DCC) and adapts its functions automatically, so you don't have to do a thing!
Functions and sounds available to DCC users include: bell, whistle, water injector, air release, blower hiss, fire box door, lighting direction, coupling, brake squeal, conductor's voice, sand release, and cylinder cock/flange squeal. And users of conventional DC power supplies can use the included wireless handheld controller for six sound functions as well as for speed and direction. Measures 15¾" long and arrives ready to run; requires a minimum curve radius of 22".
